Homelabbing is cool April 21, 2026

I’ve been homelabbing like crazy for days, I knew the moment I set foot in this niche, it would suck me in like quicksand.

Right now I’m trying not to spend too much, but that mini PC I could use to set up my own NAS is giving me puppy dog eyes.

What I have right now is a humble PC running Proxmox.

I want to have all third-party services like iCloud or Google Drive on my own server. Time to choose which services I’ll use to replace the big corporate bastards.

Files (Nextcloud)

Even though Nextcloud has a ton of plugins that can replace other services I’m going to install, I’m really only interested in using it as a Google Drive, and it can possibly replace Google Docs.

Calendar + Contacts (Nextcloud)

I don’t use this feature much, but it’s important to keep a backup of contacts. We are used to Google or Apple storing all that information, but by leaving their infrastructure I have to add this service.

Notes (Nextcloud)

I’m an Obsidian user, so the most logical option is to use Nextcloud’s file sync to sync my Vault.

Photos (Immich)

It’s very similar to Google Photos and very convenient to use. It also features AI processing to offer really handy filtering. I’ll definitely store all my images here.

Password Manager (Vaultwarden)

A no-brainer, I can use Bitwarden everywhere for auto-fill.

Music (Navidrome)

I haven’t used it, but apparently it’s recommended to replace Spotify. To listen to music I use an MP3 player, but it could be interesting to have the option to effortlessly sync my music across my devices.

Podcasts (Audiobookshelf)

It might be interesting not to depend on Pocketcasts for my podcasts, I’ll give it a try.

Video (Jellyfin)

A no-brainer for watching my movies and series comfortably on the TV.

PS: I hate you Google (๑•̀ᗝ•́)૭
